SYNOPSIS:

Trying to recover from a sudden break-up, Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl) goes on vacation and meets the dashing Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher). They fall madly in love and begin a life of suburban marriage bliss. Little does Jen know, Spencer 'forgot to mention' his job as an international super-assassin and now Jen's perfect world is about to be turned upside down! From the director of "The Ugly Truth", KILLERS is a hilarious action comedy about love, marriage and serious firepower.

MOVIE REVIEW:

Do you love Nice? You know that wonderful French Riviera city filled with hilltop resorts, Alps villages and is a popular destination for couples and honeymooners. Then perhaps this will be the only thing you will ever remember after watching "Killers".

Katherine Heigl plays Jen Kornfeldt, a recently dumped woman who is on a vacation trip with her parents (Tom Selleck and Catherine O’ Hara) to Nice. An encounter with a handsome young man, Spencer (Ashton Kutcher) in the hotel lift led her once again to love and a swift marriage. Three years later, Jen discovers that Spencer is actually once a field operative agent working for a blah-blah-blah agency with a license to blah.

"Killers" is meant to be an action romance comedy, the sort you must have probably watched million times before. Unfortunately, it delivers everything on the wrong note that this hybrid of True Lies and Mr and Mrs Smith is a disaster coming out from Robert Luketic. This first attempt by Luketic who is previously known for his light-weight comedies such as "Legally Blonde" and "Monster-In-Law" to deliver an actioner is bewildering. He is not really the perfect material for an Oscar winner but the Australian did establish a couple of memorable box-office hits. Right here, he is at a major loss. The disjointed action sequences failed to go hand-in-hand with the romance factor and the comedy is ruined by some campy one-liners.

The chemistry between Heigl and Kutcher is a little weak to convince the audience that the two are so deeply in love with each other. To make things worse, there isn’t much in-depth look into our super spy, Spencer. Sure, he drives a Ferrari, has a nicely sculpt body and he dives, he fights but is it enough to show he is an operative agent wanting to retire from the field. Heigl on the other hand reprise another one of her previously on-screen romance roles that it just got a bit exhausting after a while.

Well the highlight of the movie is the undercover suburban neighbours and colleagues who are hired to kill Spencer. At least for that few moments, the constant gunfires and pyrotechnics keep your eyes glue to the screen rather than focusing on two bland characters arguing over which brand of pregnancy test kits to buy at Kmart.

"Killers" is a good example of how a supposedly entertaining dumb silly movie bogged down by all the wrong execution. The only credit goes to Russell Carpenter (Titanic, The Ugly Truth) for his lush gorgeous shots of Nice in the opening sequence.

SPECIAL FEATURES :

For the extras, we are treated to 5 minutes of Alternate & 4 minutes of Extended Scenes in addition to 4 minutes of Deleted Scenes. Largely forgettable and unnecessary.

A series of short Cast Interviews are included if you are keen on how the stars boast about the story and their characters.

A one minutes plus of unfunny Gag Reel and Trailers from Simply Fun titles including Peacock and Liar Game round up the disc extras.

AUDIO/VISUAL:

The visual aspect is almost flawless here, colours are bright and natural while the action sequences which consist of car chases, gunfire etc benefit highly from the Dolby Digital 5.1.
