HUANG WEN YONG 黄文永 (1952 - 2013)

Beloved veteran Mediacorp actor Huang Wen Yong (黄文永) has passed away earlier on saturday at the age of 60 according to reports.  


Huang Wenyong, best known for his role as "Ah Shui" in Channel 8's period drama "The Awakening" joined the then SBC in 1980. To date, he has acted in over 100 Chinese dramas and sitcoms and has won numerous awards including "Special Achievement Award" in Star Awards 1997 and the most recent "Top 10 Favourite Male Artist Award" in Star Awards 2011.

Last November when he appeared emaciated during a television show to commemorate the 30th anniversary of local Mandarin drama, he told the press that it was the result of stomach flu. Huang has constantly denied rumours about his health status until recently he was quoted as saying he will be resuming work some time in April.

The consummate actor has appeared in numerous memorable drama serials including "Don't Worry Be Happy", "Samsui Women" and "Holland Village" in his over 30 years of acting career. His last TV drama was last june, "The Joys of Life" opposite Chew Chor Meng. 

Rest In Peace Huang Wen Yong, we will forever miss your presence on the small screen.
