The world just lost David Bowie and now British thespian Alan Rickman.
Actor Alan Rickman, known to audiences worldwide as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, villian Hans Gruber in Die Hard, and Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, has died of cancer at the age of 69.
The London-born star began his career in theatre, including the Royal Shakespeare Company, before winning roles in TV dramas like Smiley's People and The Barchester Chronicles in the 1980s.
Despite being famous for playing villians, he spoofed his own persona in the 2000 comedy Galaxy Quest in which he plays a Shakespearian-trained actor who has found fame as a Spock-style alien in a long-running sci-fi series and also a romantic role in Love Actually.
However, Rickman never won an Oscar in his lenghty career (he did receive a Golden Globe, an Emmy, a Bafta and many more) but that did not seem to trouble the actor himself.
It's a sad January for sure.
