Despicable Me 2 have nabbed the top spot as Universal Pictures’s top grossing film of all-time, beating the record holder of 16 years, The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
With Singapore box office takings of S$6.47 million and still counting, Gru and his minions triumph as the best-selling animation of 2013.
Despicable Me 2 also snatched the #2 spot from Madagascar 3 in its battle for Singapore’s highest grossing animation of all-time, proving that the minions are truly in command. The first Despicable Me installment, which was released in 2010, holds the twelfth position with S$3.9 million in ticket sales.
Mr. Nicholas Yong, Managing Director of the film’s local distributing arm, United International Pictures (Singapore & Malaysia) said, "We’re ecstatic and thrilled with Despicable Me 2’s results! It is a remarkable achievement especially for a film that opened right outside of the school holidays. We were confident that Despicable Me 2 would be able to beat the first Despicable Me’s box office numbers and had hoped it would sneak into the top 5 highest grossing animation chart but to see it reached the 2nd position within 19 days is indeed a truly amazing feat. All the more now, we look forward to the stand-alone Minion Movie due out in December 2014.”
