John Singleton, the writer and director behind the 1991's Ice Cube starring teen drama, Boyz N The Hood, has died following a stroke. He was 51.
Singleton was the youngest person and first African American ever nominated for a best director Oscar. He was 24 years old when he made Boyz N The Hood.
Over the decades, his works have spanned genres and showcased his curiosity and creativity including a remake of Shaft with Samuel L. Jackson and blockbusters such as 2 Fast 2 Furious and Four Brothers.
In recent years, Singleton also took his talents to create shows such as Billions, The People V. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story and Empire. He also co-created and executive produced the current hit drama series Snowfall.
