Iconic actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, was found dead Sunday in the bathroom of his apartment in the West Village. The 46-year-old Oscar winner accordingly died of an apparent drug overdose.
Hoffman won an Oscar for his performance in Capote though the acclaimed actor has chalked up numerous nominations for his performances in movies such as Doubt, The Master, The Savages, Charlie Wilson's War, The Ides of March and opposite Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible III.
Both of Hoffman-starring projects that premiered at Sundance were bought for distribution. IFC Films bought the John Slattery-helmed God's Pocket, and Lionsgate nabbed Anton Corbijn's thriller A Most Wanted Man. Hoffman was in the midst of filming his role as head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in Lionsgate's two-part Hunger Games sequel Mockingjay and had completed his work for Part 1, and had only seven days remaining to shoot on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. Sources say the films' scheduled release dates of Nov. 21, 2014, and Nov. 20, 2015, respectively, will not be affected by Hoffman's death.
