It has been reported that renowned Hong Kong director Ringo Lam has died in his home at the age of 63.
Lam is known for his "on fire" series of films, which includes City on Fire (龍虎風雲) and Prison on Fire (監獄風雲). Together with Tsui Hark, Ann Hui, Lam was part of Hong Kong’s New Wave movement from the late 80’s to early 90’s that put Hong Kong cinema on the map.
Following Hark and John Woo, Lam also made a foray into Hollywood in 1996, directing action star Jean-Claude Van Damme in "Maximum Risk" and together with fellow auteurs Tsui Hark and Johnnie To, directed 2007’s Triangle before taking a long hiatus.
Stars like Daniel Wu and Jean-Claude Van Damme have posted online tributes to the Hong Kong film director, producer, and screenwriter. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.
