TRAILER REPORT 8/8/13 - THOR: THE DARK WORLD, ENDER'S GAME, MUPPETS MOST WANTED, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS, THE COUNSELLOR AND HER

Our first in a series of as-and-when reports on trailer releases kicks off its inaugural edition with six interesting movies that bode for a very exciting fall season. 

THOR: THE DARK WORLD (opens Oct 30)

Marvel has just dropped another trailer for THOR: THE DARK WORLD, in conjunction with Youtube Geek Week. Picking up where the last film left off, Thor is now faced with an intergalactic battle to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy led by the vengeful Malekith. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Christopher Eccleston and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje star in Alan Taylor's feature filmmaking debut. 

ENDER'S GAME (opens 7 Nov)

Based on the worldwide bestseller, ENDER'S GAME tells the story of Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy but strategically brilliant boy, is recruited to join the elite in a battle against a hostile alien race called the Formics who have attacked Earth. Also starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Ben Kingsley and Harrison Ford, the movie is adapted and directed by Gavin Hood. 

MUPPETS MOST WANTED (opens 24 April 2014)

The Muppets return next year with a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe's most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine - the World's Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit - and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. Besides the voice cast, the film also adds Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.  

CAPTAIN PHILLIPS (opens 24 Oct)

Tom Hanks stars as Captain Richard Phillips in the film based on the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama. Phillips was eventually rescued in a dangerous mission by a Navy SEAL team. Paul Greengrass (of 'Bourne Ultimatum') directs the movie. 

THE COUNSELLOR (opens 28 Nov)

Michael Fassbender stars as a lawyer who enters the drug trade only to find himself in over his head. Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz, and Penelope Cruz also star in the Ridley Scott pic scripted by Cormac McCarthy. 

HER (release date unconfirmed)

Spike Jonze writes and directs this drama about an introverted man (Joaquin Phoenix) who falls in love with an artificially intelligent operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johansson). Also starring Amy Adams and Rooney Mara. 

Like we said at the beginning, it's shaping up to be a really exciting fall season!
