YOUNG & FABULOUS Celebrates the Breaking of S$1.2 Million at Box Office after 19 Days
The team behind local comedy YOUNG & FABULOUS gathered today for a celebratory luncheon at Ah Yat Abalone to celebrate the film’s recent million dollar box office success. YOUNG & FABULOUS achieved S$1,221,851.56 at the box office after 19 days of its release in Singapore, despite facing strong competition from Hollywood summer holiday blockbusters such as TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, and THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE.
Among the attendees were executive producer and director Joyce Lee, scriptwriter Rebecca Leow, actors Henry Thia, Aloysius Pang, Joshua Tan, Jeffrey Xu and Jordan Ng, as well as members of the media and partners such as Media Development Authority Singapore and Golden Village Pictures. The luncheon began with a symbolic ice sculpture breaking ceremony, where the YOUNG & FABULOUS team smashed a ‘1,200,000’ ice sculpture to signify more record-breaking box office numbers to come.

One million at the box office was our target, and being able to hit it in just 19 days is a dream come true, as YOUNG & FABULOUS is our very first film and we’re new players to production. Local comedy YOUNG & FABULOUS continues to go strong at the box office against major blockbusters like THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, grossing over S$313,900 in 4 days during its opening weekend and successfully maintaining its hold on the 3rd position at the box office.
Since its opening last Thursday 26 May, YOUNG & FABULOUS has been very well-received by local audiences of all ages. Many teenage audiences found a connection to the film’s awkward but sincere protagonist Royston Chio (Aloysius Pang), with some commenting online that they were inspired by how Royston eventually took courage to better himself and pursue his dreams. Royston’s relationship with his mother Mei Feng (Quan Yi Fong) also found its way into their hearts, and some drew parallels between this screen relationship and their real family lives. Audiences were also highly entertained by the hilarious dialect-filled exchange between comedians Henry Thia and Gurmit Singh.

YOUNG & FABULOUS Opens 3rd Spot at Box Office on Opening Day amidst Strong Competition
Local comedy YOUNG & FABULOUS emerged in the 3rd spot at the box office on opening day yesterday (26 May), grossing over S$44,000 with just 16 cinema locations and amidst strong competition from major Hollywood blockbusters including X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE.
YOUNG & FABULOUS has also been gaining favourable word-of-mouth reviews since its premiere and opening release. Some positive online commentary on the film includes "funny yet meaningful", "a relatable movie to both parents and kids”, and “one of the best local movies". One online commentator gave the film "4.5 stars out of 5 stars", and another was asking for the possibility of "Young & Fabulous Part 2". A member of the local cosplay community also gave props to the film for being a "good representative of the local cosplay scene" and for encouraging a good balance between the hobby, school, work and other commitments.
