Synopsis
(Courtesy from 20th Century Fox) :
“Chicago’s”
Queen Latifah and “Saturday Night Live”’s
Jimmy Fallon team up in this non-stop action-comedy. Latifah
is New York’s fastest cabbie whose skills behind the
wheel and souped-up car help an overeager undercover cop (Jimmy
Fallon) pursue a gang of female bank robbers.
Review:
This
is an America sanitised version of Luc Besson's French hit,
"Taxi". The main character gender in the original
has been replaced by a female and is played by Queen Latifah.
SNL cast member Jimmy Fallon is a fumbling, badly in need
of driving lessons cop. Together, both must team up to nab
a gang of bank robbers led by Supermodel Gisele Bündchen
aka squeeze of Leonardo DiCaprio, in her movie debut.
Surprisingly,
the pairing of Latifah and Fallon is likeable and the jokes
are a departure from the usual crude category so it's children
friendly. By placing himself in folly, undesirable situations
liked crashing through an unlocked door, Fallon succeeds in
pulling the laughter through most of his clown-like antics.
Latifah is genuinely mellow in her role here but still succeeds
in her wacky, wisecracks one-liners.
The
main attraction in fact is the heavily modified Ford Crown
Victoria, imagine rushing through New York traffic liked a
blazing land jet. And that's what Speed demon Belle (Queen
Latifah) is doing for a living. So when Washburn (Jimmy Fallon)
hails belle's taxi to chase down the robbers in their BMW
760Li, you are in for some hair-raising car-racing sequences.
If
you loved movies liked "Rush Hour", go for a ride
in this "Taxi", they have cool cars, hot sexy babes
and a barrage of jokes to entertain you along the way. Just
don't expect a logical plotline.
