ALBUM REVIEW:
This reviewer still cannot figure out what possessed him to
fall in love with the Disney Channel phenomenon that is High
School Musical (HSM).
Is
it the infectious tunes that he hums every other day? Is it
the cheesy song lyrics which he has now learnt by heart? Or
is it the happy dance moves that he wishes to perform on stage
one day?
So
when he learnt that there is a 40-city concert tour based
on the hit television movie in the United States, Canada and
Latin America, he could only yearn for a concert album to
be released so that he can own a piece of the magic here in
Singapore.
And
here it is, the addictively positive songs presented in one
accessible album. If you are already a fan of the songs, you’d
have no problem singing along to the “live” recordings
on this disc. Out of the 14 tracks, 10 are from HSM while
four others are bonus tracks performed by individual cast
members.
Nothing
beats the cheers and roars of a concert crowd. When you hear
the applauses and screams of the fans on this concert album,
you’d wish you were there to soak in the atmosphere.
Other
than the odd exclusion of Zac Efron (who was busy filming
Adam Shankman’s musical comedy Hairspray) and being
replaced by Drew Seeley, the entire cast including the pretty
lass Vanessa Hudgens, the showy Lucas Grabeel and the foxy
Ashley Tidale perform one cheerful song after another.
Another
reason this is a must-own soundtrack for HSM fans is the bonus
DVD which includes over half an hour of footage of impressively
shot song numbers, exclusive cast interviews and a trailer
for the upcoming concert DVD in July.
After
watching the one-odd-minute promo trailer, I immediately know
what I should spend my July allowance on.
